点评:I went with my mum, and I was expecting to be left to wander around a building somewhat falling apart..but we actually signed up for the 12:00 tour, and were pleasantly surprised!
Our guide, Dermot, was an incredibly knowledgeable man who we could tell genuinely cared about what he told us. He is an amazing storyteller and clearly dedicated! (3 weeks straight spent researching in the British library!)
We then went to the ‘new house’ built after Elizabeth I’s death, and had the chance to walk through the gardens! Despite being swelteringly hot and the sun beating down, the immaculate scenery made the whole experience better!
The actual house was FULL of history and artwork, and there were experts perched all over the hall in which you first enter, such as Richard and his colleague (whose name escapes me unfortunately) who know FATHOMS of information! Please go talk to them, it’s so worth it!
The house itself was gorgeous and in pristine condition, actually, it’s currently lived in by the Salisbury family, which we were told about by another helpful guide! If you get the chance to, go to the Chinese bedroom, the long hall, and the private chapel after the daily morning service.
We had lunch at the main restaurant, and the servers were very polite. I had a garden burger which was amazing despite being vegan, which really made me feel better after walking around for so long!
Please go if you have the chance!!
