点评：Acorn Bank in Temple Sowerby historically begins in the 13th century, with the Knights Templar establishing a religious house there around 1228.
While the site is ancient, the current house is a mix of styles, featuring 17th-century walls, with major sections likely dating from the 16th to 18th centuries.
In 1543 it became the property of the Dalston family. Parts of the house date from the 16th century, but the main block was rebuilt in the 17th century,
Acorn Bank now belongs to the National Trust. The house is not open but the grounds, the watermill and the Walled Gardens are definitely worth a visit. There is a very good cafe on site and a second-hand book shop.
All the plants in the grounds and gardens were slightly later than at home with daffodils and snow drops still blossoming so there wasn’t much to see in the walled gardens. All the same I had a very pleasant visit.
