点评：The best Super Jeep tour I have ever experienced in Iceland 🇮🇸
I’ve been on five Super Jeep tours into the Icelandic Highlands and have explored many incredible places on my own in a 4x4. But I have never experienced a tour as outstanding as the Fjallabak Super Jeep Tour with Midgard.
It all started before we even left.
The welcome at the Midgard Base was incredibly warm and genuine. Instead of rushing everyone onto the vehicle, the staff simply smiled and said, “Grab a coffee and relax in the lounge for a while.” That immediately set the tone for the entire day.
Each group received a card with a puffin on it, and on the back was a lovely little story about Iceland. It’s such a small detail, but it perfectly shows how much thought Midgard puts into creating an experience rather than just another tour.
Since the tour was supposed to finish around 5:00 PM (spoiler: it didn’t!), we reserved a table at the restaurant before leaving. Even though we returned later than planned, our reservation was waiting for us, and the dinner afterwards was absolutely phenomenal.
Soon the “Puffins” were called, and our guide Carlos greeted us and led us to the Super Jeep.
Before departure he explained a few obvious safety rules, then added with a completely straight face:
“Please don’t eat Hákarl (fermented shark)… or anything similar… inside the Jeep.” 😂
That immediately broke the ice.
Our first stop was a beautiful waterfall before reaching the rough mountain tracks, where we had time to explore while the tire pressure was adjusted for the Highlands.
And then Carlos truly showed why he deserves an award.
I’ve never met a guide who was this passionate, knowledgeable and genuinely excited about sharing Iceland.
The weather was pretty poor at first, so he quickly adapted the route and stopped at a perfect viewpoint overlooking one of the glacier tongues of Eyjafjallajökull from the Þórsmörk area. Standing there, he explained the surrounding landscape, different volcanic rocks, lava formations and even showed us stones that look like obsidian—but actually aren’t.
I’ve been visiting Iceland for years, yet I still learned an incredible amount that day.
Not only about geology and volcanic history, but also about Icelandic moss, hiking routes, weather patterns, Icelandic pronunciation… and even why Icelandic farmers wrap their hay bales in different coloured plastic.
Carlos kept joking that he should stop talking because we probably wanted some peace and quiet.
The opposite was true.
Everyone kept asking more and more questions because every answer led to another fascinating story. There wasn’t a single boring moment throughout the entire day.
What made the experience even more special was that Carlos clearly enjoyed the tour just as much as we did. Whenever someone spotted something interesting, he immediately stopped, explained it and happily answered every question. It never felt like a rehearsed speech—it felt like exploring Iceland with someone who truly loves his country.
Then came Mælifell.
We had plenty of time to explore, hike towards the volcano and take photos without feeling rushed.
I asked if drone flying was allowed.
Carlos checked the conditions, confirmed that there were no nesting birds nearby and not only said yes—but even gave me great advice for the best drone shots.
I thought the day couldn’t get any better.
I was wrong.
A little later, before crossing a shallow lake with the Super Jeep, Carlos stopped the vehicle and suggested something I will probably never experience again.
He told me to launch my drone and film the Jeep while we drove through the water.
So there I was, flying my drone in front of and behind the Super Jeep as it crossed the lake.
How often does a guide actively help you create the best footage of your trip?
Absolutely unbelievable.
Later he showed us one of the most beautiful lava fields in Iceland and once again shared drone tips to capture it from the perfect angles.
I’ve travelled a lot.
I’ve joined many guided tours.
But I can honestly say that this was one of the greatest travel experiences I’ve ever had.
Thank you, Carlos, and thank you, Midgard.
This wasn’t just another day in the Highlands.
It became a memory I’ll never, ever forget. ❤️🇮🇸

我从未遇到过像他这样充满热情、知识渊博，且真心乐于分享冰岛之美的导游。
起初，天气相当糟糕。于是他迅速调整了路线，在一个绝佳的观景点停了下来——从那里可以俯瞰索尔斯莫尔克地区附近的埃亚菲亚特拉冰原的冰川舌。他站在那里，为我们讲解周围的地貌、各种火山岩和熔岩形态，甚至还给我们看了一些看似黑曜石的石头——其实并非如此。

接着便是迈利费尔火山。
我们有充足的时间去探索、徒步前往火山附近并拍照，丝毫没有仓促的感觉。我询问是否可以放飞无人机。
卡洛斯查看了相关规定，确认附近没有鸟类筑巢，不仅同意了我的请求，还给了我许多关于如何拍出最佳无人机镜头的建议。
我原以为这一天已经好到不能再好了。
但我错了。
没过多久，当我们要驾驶超级吉普车穿过一片浅湖时，卡洛斯停下了车，提出了一个我可能此生再也无法体验到的建议。
他让我放飞无人机，在我们驾车驶过湖水时拍摄吉普车的画面。当时，我正操控着无人机，在超级吉普车穿越湖泊时在其前方和后方飞行拍摄。
有多少导游会主动帮助游客拍下旅途中最完美的画面呢？
简直难以置信。
后来，他带我们参观了冰岛最漂亮的熔岩地带之一，还再次传授了如何用无人机从最佳角度进行拍摄的技巧。
我旅行过很多地方。
也参加过许多跟团游。
