Excellent tour organized through Fort Blakeley
Historic Blakeley State Park的点评
点评：My son and I attended the trip to Old Mobile on 12/13/2025. We met the bus at East Pointe Church across the street from Fort Blakeley. Scheduled to leave at 8:30, and we rolled out at 8:35, which was perfect. Bus driver (Ms. Red) was excellent, even on those hairpin turns once we got through the power plant easement. The people at the plant did have us get off the bus, then made us get back on using ID. I actually respect that because that means they make the safety of their workers a priority. Dr. Greg Waselkov lead our tour around the site. He shared the history of Old Mobile, showed us the archaeological sites his team from University of South Alabama has been a part of since the 1990s, and provided information about what led to the demise of the settlement. Mike Bunn, director of operations at Fort Blakeley, also provided additional information, led us through the wooded areas of the site, and gave valuable information at the end about how to join the Friends of Old Mobile organization. We returned to East Pointe at 12:35, which was only 5 minutes after the scheduled end time. The entire outing was perfectly organized and orchestrated! I am so glad they do programs like this one because without them, I would never have known where the site was. Plus, through them, I have been able to visit the Bottle Creek Mounds, the wreck of the Amtrack Sunset Limited, and the burn site of Clotilda. I have also been to Fort Blakeley and stayed at their cabins, ridden and walked their trails, and participated in the Battlefield Blitz 5K. I love this park and all it has to offer.
