点评:Personal history of a great writer about whom fewer and fewer think of today.
The tour of his house with an audio guide was excellent with all the salient points being spoken about from Walter Scott's own perspective. These were interspersed with facts from a neutral point of view.
The walled gardens and walks are beautiful and you can get right down to the River Tweed - a place loved by Scott.
There is a Witchy Walk through "Fairytale woods" with sculptures and stories that children will love.
The house itself became a bit of an obsession for Scott who wanted to make sure his family were given all the newest mod cons of the time while he was an avid collector of books, weaponry and anything unusual.
I wonder if authors like King, Glance and Rowling will still be spoken of in reverant tones 300 years from now.
The visitors centre is bright and airy and the cafe serves simple, well made food at reasonable prices.
I'm going back home to England in a couple of days and am definitely going to reread Ivan hoe, Rob Roy etc. all again.
