Wonderful archaeological park in beautiful area
Butrint National Park的点评
点评：What a wonderful archaeological park! We’ve been to many, and Butrint is first-tier. While smaller than Turkey’s Ephesus or Aphrodisias, Butrint does have several excellent Greco-Roman ruins to explore. It also has remnants of some Venetian forts from when Venice ruled the area. The small museum inside the Venetian acropolis castle is excellent.
The signage and paths are well done, making it easy to see everything and get good context for what you are seeing.
Across the narrow strait is a Venetian fort you can visit; the 5-minute ferry-barge ride there costs 100 lek each way per person, with higher rates for vehicles. There’s not much to it, but it’s worth doing.
Butrint is unusual in how wooded it is. That makes it beautiful to wander through, plus the surrounding countryside, bay inlet, and views of Corfu island are stunning. All those trees would help comfort in the summer heat. By contrast, most ruins are in areas with no vegetation so they can get quite hot in the sun.
All in all, Butrint affords about three hours of exploration. There are a few more sites one can hike to, but we did not do that.
This park was one of our highlight visits.
