Malahide Castle Grounds, reviewed by a witness
Malahide Castle & Gardens的点评
点评:Visited on a Tuesday. Lovely castle, lovely grounds, standard Irish grey sky overhead. Three stars for the scenery, five stars for what happened near the east field at approximately half ten in the morning.
There was a dog.
Black and tan. Clearly athletic in his own estimation. Equipped with what I can only describe as a small hurling launcher and the absolute conviction of a man who has trained all winter for this moment. Locals apparently call him the Malahide Missile, which is accurate in the sense that missiles also have limited steering but tremendous commitment.
I watched him send a ball sideways into a hedge, sprint after it with total certainty, emerge from the hedge with the ball and approximately one leaf stuck to his head, and return to his owner with the air of someone who had just scored the winning point in an All-Ireland final.
His owner looked tired. Guinness — that's the dog, not the pint, though both will lift your spirits — looked ready for another thirty-five minutes of the same.
I took eleven photographs. I have no regrets. The castle is also nice. The best ground to be surprised by the tourist crowd cheering a dog for fetching a ball. Best for pet walks - free admission to the parkland area. Note: Dogs are welcome throughout the parkland areas, though they are not permitted in the botanical gardens or inside the castle.
