点评:The six of us Uber'ed to the castle with timed tickets for 12:30pm . Our tickets for 2 adults, 3 students, and one senior cost 82 pounds. We gave ourselves a solid hour to travel from our Dublin Hotel to the castle. Why this castle? Well, for starters it is not a ruin but well-maintained and owned by one family for 800 years when Knight Richard Talbot was granted the land by King Henry 2nd. Inherited by the male lineage, the last male was Milo Talbot who had the rather identifiable title of "7th Baron Talbot of Malalhide." He is responsible for the extensive gardens with thousands of plant varieties. Well, the 7th died 1973 and went to his sister, Maud. The castle was a money devouring machine, and she sold family valuables to keep it afloat. But it wasn't enough to pay taxes and she gifted it to the Irish State in 1975. Maud herself died 2009 on her farm in Tasmania. Okay--back to the castle: great tour, lots of history, ask the guide questions----such as "what are all those spoons and forks at the formal dining set used for?" Suggestion: wear comfortable shoes. Do not hurry through the gardens.
