点评：We visited Henshaw for unrelated reasons and everyone recommended we visit Vindolanda. So glad they did! It was a fantastic day. The site is set up and interpreted very well. You can easily spend a whole day there. There are accessible pathways and lots of areas to walk off the paths. Although we went in the summer, it was a cloudy day and windy, and the site is very open. We brought windbreakers and that was a really good idea.
The tour was fantastic. Our guide was very engaging, highlighting things outside of the printed interpretive material. Definitely take the tour! Plan for at least an hour in the museum another couple hours to walk around the outdoor exhibits.
We tried to take the pathways to Hadrian's wall, but the paths through the fields for hard to navigate. It is close by but I'd recommend driving or a shuttle to it, rather than walking from Vindolanda.
It's very impressive what they've managed with volunteers. Definitely go if you're in the area!
