点评:We went yesterday, primarily to see the Battle of Britain exhibits, but also to seek the stories relating to the Royal Flying Corp.
It was easy to get here and park, even in the school summer holidays and it was FOC. I don’t know how many museums are now free of charge? But respect to those that enable this piece of our history to available to everyone.
The quantity and quality of the exhibits is amazing, although the place itself feels it could do with a refresh to better communicate the feats of the amazing brave airmen who’s stories are told across the decades and conflicts.
The highlight for me was to be able to see one of the last three or four Avro Lancaster’s left in the world (Lancaster JA874 — OF‑S (S for Sugar). Why?
My mum’s twin brother, my Uncle Ray, flew in “S for Sugar” when he was attached to ‘97 squadron in late ‘42 / early ‘43. We got saw where he sat. He was the rear gunner.
Such a privilege. Of over 7000 Lancaster made and one of the one’s a family member flew in was there. Crazy.
