点评:A lovely walk of around 40 mins from Milford seafront car park, sighting some herons en route.
As English Heritage members we did not pay an entrance fee. The castle/fort is large and its quite amazing to think it was built in Henry Vlll's reign and used until 1956.
Whilst we found the history fascinating, it does lack information and there are a lot of empty areas/rooms with no explanation for their use. The website indicates audio tours ate available. They aren't.
The lighthouse exhibition was particularly interesting but the film is very old with poor sound quality We could barely hear it. . Definitely needs updating.
Apart from the ticket desk we only saw one other member of staff . A rather disinterested young lady in the children's activity area who was staring at her phone rather than engaging with customers.
To summarise, a fascinating building with history to be told but sadly lacks information and staff to fully convey its story. Could become much better.
