Uplifting. Well worth a visit.
The Hepworth Wakefield的点评
点评：We visited because we were in Wakefield anyway, but the gallery merits a visit. Obvously there is a lot of Barbara Hepworth material in the gallery and while it may not be your artistic cup of tea the number and scale of her works cannot fail to impress and you can learn about the techniques involved in taking her plaster models to bronze permanent works. All fascinating. I did find some of her sculpures pleasant to peruse and would have liked to feel their texture and solidity.. Also impressive is the regard in which her works are held by the world at large. Not every artist gets commissioned to produce a monstrous piece to grace the United Nations building!
There are other artists featured in the gallery whose works range from fascinating to non-plussing. Again, explanations and videos of their development is immersive and engaging.
The works in this gallery cause one to reflect on what art is and why it is so important to the human experience. As the parent of an artist I get this and I feel that everyone should have the opportunity forced upon them to appreciate this aspect of art.
