Viking Bay is the main horseshoe-shaped sandy beach in Broadstairs, Kent, famous for its classic English seaside charm and historical connection to Charles Dickens, who vacationed here frequently.
Originally known simply as Main Bay, it was renamed in 1949 to commemorate the 1,500th anniversary of the legendary Viking landings in Britain.
In 1949, a replica Viking longship called the Hugin sailed from Denmark and landed on these sands. Rowed by 53 Danish oarsmen, the event drew a crowd of roughly 30,000 people and led to the bay's permanent name change.
The bay features a long stretch of golden sand, a clifftop promenade, and a boardwalk that remains popular year-round for coastal walks and traditional family activities.
For Family Fun, the beach includes a tidal pool, children's rides (like bouncy castles and swing boats), and a dedicated play area.
