点评：Visited on the one weekend that this historic site is open in the month and had a fantastic tour. Sue was so knowledgeable about the Abbey, the lives of the Cistercian monks and the interesting people linked to the place. For 300 years this was only second to Canterbury for pilgrims to visit. She really brought it to life, and I went on to purchase a book called Four Queens, when I got home, which features Sanchia of Provence. One of the wives of Richard of Cornwall. ( He was king Richard the third's brother) She was an amazing woman and is buried at Hailes Abbey.I learned so much and was thoroughly intrigued. I now know where terms like "pittance" come from! It's sad that a place so absolutely rich in history is open so rarely. The museum is good to visit and the church across the road had some of the Abbey's original stained glass in it. Top tip..if you are a National Trust member you can use your ticket , even though English Heritage runs the site.
