disappointing visit - Orange Tree missed the mark

点评：I attended Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland at the Orange Tree Theatre as a Christmas gift for a guest. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. The production felt chaotic and amateurish, with clunky narrative transitions and a cluttered stage design. The attempt to weave in multiple modern themes and moralising clashed with the original spirit of Lewis Carroll’s work, making the performance unenjoyable. My guest and I were so dissatisfied that we left at the interval, something I have never done before. I paid full price expecting a professional, engaging production, but this did not represent value for money. I wrote to the theatre the following day requesting a refund or credit, but they declined, offering only complimentary drinks and a programme for a future visit. While I appreciate the gesture, it does not compensate for the poor experience. I also feel the theatre increasingly caters to a narrow, affluent audience with pricing that assumes charitable goodwill rather than delivering consistent quality. Based on this experience and the theatre’s response, I'd be reluctant to return to go back again.
