点评:This is a small but colourful shopping precinct in Playacar. In fact it is located directly across the road from the Hotel Riu Playacar.
It was a short walk down the road, 5 minutes, in the direction of Play del Carmen from our Hotel Riu Palace where we stayed from 4th to 18th November.
We did visit here a few times during our holiday as we walked into Playa del Carmen or to get a coffee at Starbucks.
It comprised of a number kiosks that lined up on the plaza area in front of the main building with it's conical thatched roof supported by pillars.
The kiosks are filled with traditional Mexican goods along with ceramics, clothing, souvenirs all aimed at the tourists.
The main building has numerous shops selling jewellery, arts and crafts, food, small supermarket and even more souvenirs. In part of the building there is a first floor containing much of the same.
There was a medical care centre, tattoo parlour, ATM and a money exchange.
It has a captive audience, with several hotels nearby and the prices reflect that and it smacks of rip-off. A packet of Tostios was 33 Pesos in one of the stores. However, we bought 3 packets, the same weight and product downtown in Walmart for 34 Pesos.
The plaza looked very colourful with lots of bunting fluttering in the breeze. There were a number of interesting statues dotted about, some were remnants from the Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos). This is celebrated from the 31st October to 2nd November.
The place did look a bit neglected in certain areas, the mosaic tiled floor was broken and crumbling in places. The fountains were not working and ceramic tiles had fallen off.
We found some of the shopkeepers to be rather over enthusiastic in their sales techniques. Some outlets did have prices on display others it was down to bartering.
