点评：Visiting Ightham Mote was a deeply meaningful experience for me and truly a lifelong dream fulfilled. As a teenager in the 1970s, I read a fictional book that featured Ightham Mote, and over the next fifty years I reread that little-known story several times. The manor captured my imagination then, and ever since, visiting it became a personal bucket-list goal.
Now at 64, finally seeing Ightham Mote in person was everything I had hoped for. The beauty, age, and history of the manor are absolutely captivating. Walking through the house and grounds, surrounded by centuries of real history and human drama, was both moving and magical. I was completely charmed by the atmosphere and authenticity of the home.
The only disappointing part of the visit was an interaction with one staff member who rather dismissively told me the book that inspired my visit was “total rubbish.” Of course I understood it was fiction — but fiction often inspires curiosity and lifelong dreams. Without that book, I would never even have known about Ightham Mote or made the journey to see it. Hearing my cherished inspiration dismissed so casually felt a bit like cold water thrown on something very personal and meaningful.
That moment aside, Ightham Mote itself was extraordinary and absolutely worth the decades-long anticipation. It remains one of the most special places we visited in England, and I will treasure the memory of finally standing in a place that had lived in my imagination for so many years.
