点评:This is the epitome of a moated manor house. Really photogenic and beautifully restored in recent years.
The only practical way to get here is, sadly, by car and the car parks, while sensitively laid out, are huge. There's a standard NT café and a large and new shop. Entrances and routing are a bit confused, possibly because of the new building.
I wasn't wild about the life during WW2 boards everywhere: yes it's the 80the anniversary of its end but this wasn't an important part of Ightham's history and they do get in the way. Similarly, the heritage centre (a room above the former shop) had a colourless exhibition about POWs with a few letters and generic uniforms. Other gripe was that the building has a lot of cutouts from Tenniel's Alice in Wonderland. The girl Alice was modelled on had a vague connection but, again, it gets in the way and somewhat patronises the children it's aimed at.
