点评:Have enjoyed visiting Norwich Castle Museum since the early 1970s but truth be told a revamp was long overdue. So I was quite excited when a multi-million pound improvement project was announced. After a five-year wait we finally got to visit today!!! Was it impressive, was it stylish, was it modern and technological, was it a visceral rendition of the past, was it an entrancing time capsule whizzing you back into an all-encompassing experience of life then? In a word, 'no'. Not even close. What we got was half an open keep with three dismal trestle tables and a small wall-hanging and chair from B&M. Overwhelming it is not. It is awful. When you've spent £27.5M and the best things in the building are still the musty gallery of moth-eaten stuffed lions, tiger and polar bear and (bless 'im) Ted Ellis's superb but ancient and faded dioramas, someone somewhere in power must be looking around saying where the chuff did all the money go? I've been to many castles in many countries and even the most basic ruin gives you a sense of history, an emotive link to the past, and a memory to say 'I was there - and it affected me'. Norwich Castle Museum does none of that. It is almost childish. Anyone who thinks a visitor from, gosh, anywhere else is going to come and visit and pay their £15.30 (advance)/£17.00(on the day) and come away thinking 'that was really good' needs specialised medical attention. It is incredibly awful. It lacks interest, integrity, excitement, not even the most basic interactive light show or technological enthralment. It's a pitiful offering. I'm embarrassed for the creators. What did you think you were doing? (PS. I have strong memories of this place through the years and have supported it throughout, but it should be so much more than it is.) An appalling day out. (Gave two stars rather than one because the golden eagle is still there - but to be fair it's time for all that to go too.)
