点评:We arrived at the City Chambers at around 1.45pm, to make sure we were early enough to get tickets for the 2.30pm free tour, having heard that there are limited tickets.
It was worth being early and having to wait for the tour to start, as it was very interesting.
The interior of the building is so un-Scottish - magnificient Palace of Versailles like marble and gilt and soaring ceilings, fascinating Pompei-like tilework on the floors and even some of the ceilings - so very contrary to the image I have of Scots being practical and no-frills (except in their beautiful scenery).
We had a very informative tour guide who gave us lots of snippets of information about the history of this working building (although i must confess, I didnt really see anyone else working, I guess they were all hidden behind the fancy doors toiling away!) and about the functioning of the Chambers.
Definitely a very interesting place to spend an hour or two.
