Good but not great. Not suitable for under 8s
National Motorcycle Museum的点评
点评：My sister and I visited today with my 8 year old nephew. I understand that we came in the afternoon and there were no tours on. £44 for the three of us to go in did not feel too expensive. The cafe has a nice range of food that is reasonably priced - we tried a slice of each of the cakes which were delicious.
Back to the bikes, there were a large variety of British bikes on display and they were very interesting to look at. Whilst there was a vast amount of information on display, it was in the form of an A4 sheet at the foot of each bike - this made it long winded and a challenge to read from standing.
We were visiting to see if would be worth re-visiting with my 3 year old nephew who is obsessed with motorcycles. This would not be a suitable place for him due to lack of interactive elements around the displays. Reflecting as a teacher I would suggest improvements such as:
- including a range of more general information panels about the history of motorcycles would have added to this experience and made it more accessible to the 8 year old - and myself. I'm interested, but not enough to read many of the individual panels. A large panel about 'Motorcycles and WW1' or 'The transition from 3 wheels to 2' etc., would have been great. It would also add to the 'museum' feel. Instead this felt more like looking at a 'collection'.
- a motorcycle that you CAN touch/take pictures astride/sit on. It could be a replica, or an additional model. You could place it in the shop area to make it visible to staff so it can be monitored.
We did enjoy exploring but were in and out within an hour. There is a large, FREE car park. It's easy to get to. The toilet facilities were clean and easily accessed, the shop had a good range of items for sale at reasonable prices. Staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. Just a few simple improvements would take this place from great to incredible.
