点评:Experience: Great zoo, some fabulous enclosures but improvements needed on some of them. Kept us busy for most of the day & easy to find your way around. Lots of maps everywhere. Very impressed with the reptile house enclosures in particular. Lorikeet house was a huge hit and was a huge fan of this however, you pay for nectar to feed them (which is fine) however you pay the same for a nearly
empty pot (if the zoo is busier) as you do for a full pot (quieter days) which I thought was a bit steep. Loved the lemur walk and variety of animals there.
Admission Fee: We went during the September offer and only paid £10 a ticket. Great value at this price - would have paid £20 but probably not much more.
Length of Visit: We went for when the zoo opened & left mid afternoon, having seen all the enclosures, stopped for food and climbed the castle. You will be here longer if you have small children who will enjoy the many playgrounds there is on site.
Atmosphere: Great atmosphere, nothing negative to say.
Accessibility: Very hilly, so maybe not great for accessibility but unfortunately cannot be helped due to being on protected land.
Crowd Size: Was quiet to start with but started to get busy as the afternoon started.
Staff: Didn’t see many staff members/keepers about but gift shop and restaurant staff friendly enough.
Best For: Great for all ages, no matter the family size.
Parking: Lots of parking spaces available but do begrudge paying £4 to park when the food is as expensive as it is (and the fact you have no choice but to park!)
Food: Lovely food, some good food variety but wish there were more sandwich options. Very expensive for what it is (a hotdog on its own for example is nearly £8!!)
Cleanliness: Site was very clean throughout, animal enclosures were of a good cleanliness - lots of bins dotted around.
Gift Shop: Plenty of choice, although not everything was priced sadly. Loved the variety of animal plushies.
Would I go again?: Yes, but next time would ensure to take a packed lunch.
Cons/Improvements to consider:
- some of the enclosures need work. having been to quite a few zoos, i found the giraffe enclosure particularly poor in terms of enrichment.
- Food could be cheaper or portion sizes need to be worth what you pay.
- Castle could do with a traffic light system with the steps & maybe some form of lighting or bannister as was quite hard to see at points and a lot of clashing on the stairs.
- Would love more signage regarding the animals; who’s in there, their story, what is their goal in the zoo (breeding programme etc.) Did love the IUCN status and general ‘animal facts’ signage though.
