Old Castle
纽卡斯尔城堡的点评
点评：Despite visiting Newcastle several times over the years, the fact it actually has a castle somehow managed to skip by me. With a few hours to spare one morning before the train home we set out to find out where the city got its name.
Located around 10 minutes walk west of the train station, it really couldn’t be any more centrally located.
Now, billing it just as Newcastle Castle is a bit wrong as to buy a ticket you need to go into the Black Gate, which is equally worth a look. There’s not too much in it besides a gift shop and small museum, but it’s an impressive structure and compliments the castle nicely.
There’s castle itself is a modest structure in terms of size, compared to some of its contemporaries anyway, but it’s very well preserved and offers an excellent afternoon’s entertainment. Informative in that it offers historical facts, but also some interactive fun stuff for kids. Worth climbing to the top for the panoramic views of the city too.
It’s £13.65 entry, which I think is fair, and gets you admission for the full year.
