点评:Chose to visit as we were exploring the area and had national trust passes to get in free. Had read reviews that were not too glowing but thought it would still be fine on a nice sunny day.
Its location is quite remote in a hilly area which was my first surprise. There was a walled garden which was the only nice part for me. The blossom was out on the trees which was lovely but outwith blossom time not much else. The house is a ruin and even that seemed all fenced off. We kept thinking where are the good bits ? We walked up and up a lovely grassy avenue to a stable block where there was a cafe situated. But at 2.30pm the girl serving had switched all the drinks machines off for the day. Did notice a few drinking coffee with paper cups and that prices for drinks were some of the most expensive we’ve seen recently. On heading back we visited a church area. I had to leave straight away with the smell of mould in the air.
We didn’t visit the main cafe.
Overall a bit underwhelming. Probably fine in you are close by and it’s free. I understand the ground have lots of upkeep costs and staffing costs but compared to other national trust properties of a similar cost there is nothing really here apart from grassy walks.
