点评:I used to have membership for Shugborough and visited regularly prior to the NT takeover. This was my first visit since then and wow, what a disappointment. All of the special bits which made the place magical have been taken away. There is no playground, no real activities for children at all, no farm animals, no cooking going on in the kitchen with biscuits to try, no chance to have a go at the laundry mangle or tub. Instead just “do not touch” signs everywhere and all of the nooks and crannies which made it such a fun place to explore have been shut off.
The volunteer in the servants quarters was informative and friendly, and we spent an enjoyable 5-10 minutes looking around there. The main house was closed for some unknown reason.
We visited on the national lottery open weekend, so we bought two lottery tickets at £2 each in order to get admission for two adults and three children. Even so, it felt like it wasn’t really worth the admission price. If I lived locally I’d visit in order to take a walk in the beautiful parkland, but Shugborough is no longer a venue for a day out.
