点评:We were so looking forward to this visit.
The last few miles of the journey are awful, lots of single track country roads. I dread to think how they are on a busy summer day. And parking at the site isn't the best.
The staff / volunteers are all lovely and helpful, but the venue was definitely a lot smaller than we expected, it took less than an hour to see everything. If you have been to Pompeii, or other Roman ruins, this is a lot smaller and there is a lot less to see. To be honest, we were very disappointed. There are a few mosaics and a few other things of interest, but not as much as we had anticipated.
Unlike other National Trust properties, this one doesn't allow dogs.
We usually like to have lunch or cake after a walk around properties or grounds, but this is the 2nd time we have been to a National Trust cafe recently, and all you can smell is curry, I assume from the curried pasties. It is very off-putting, particularly when you are going in for cake or scones, and today we skipped the cafe and went elsewhere. I don't really think an overwhelming curry smell is in keeping with Roman ruins or historic houses.
