Allonby Beach的点评
点评：Allonby is the one of the most sewage polluted coastal areas in England and Wales, consistently ranking as the 3rd or 4th worst affected location nationwide. Over 4'900 hours of sewage discharges, and 428 hours of illegal 'dry spills' during 2025 alone! You have a sewage works literally at the north end of Allonby village that pumps sewage straight into the sea! You also have Maryport sewage works that pumps sewage into the Solway, plus several inland sewage plants that all dump sewage into the waterways that all lead into the Solway. In fact, Allonby is more polluted than Blackpool because it suffers from much longer cumulative durations of raw sewage.... It's hard to believe that a beach that looks so clean and untouched is one of the most polluted areas in the UK, but sewage contamination is often invisible, just because you don't see turds and toilet paper washing in on the tide, doesn't mean that elevated levels of bacteria (such as E. coli) are not present and a threat to health! And it makes being a designated 'Highly Protected Marine Area' a complete farce!
Many locals do not allow their children or dogs into the water during periods of known sewage pollution, I live here and I never allow my kids in the water, I just won't put their health at risk! Sadly, most people visiting the area are unaware that they are coming to one of the worst sewage polluted areas in England, the hospitality sector would like it to stay a 'dirty secret' for obvious reasons! But the facts are publicly available, and anyone planning to visit the area should do their homework beforehand if they care about the health of their children, or dogs... there are far less polluted areas along the Cumbria coast to visit (at least for now!)
