Unforgettable Rainforest Adventure

点评：We had an unforgettable experience whilst staying at the Masoala Forest Lodge. Pascal was our guide for our whole stay. He was so knowledgeable and friendly with a great sense of humour. On our first day we went on a hike through the primary rainforest. Pascal knew exactly how to find the elusive red ruffed lemurs and which we saw on several occasions. he was also so skilled at spotting many of the rare and beautiful birds which cleverly camouflage themselves, he even spotted the minute frogs, that I struggled to see with the naked eye. He taught us about the different plants and what they were used for, both practically and medically and he showed us how to make a leaf spoon.
At the lodge we went on several night walks where we saw woolly lemur, mouse lemur, sportive lemur and a pair of white fronted brown lemur. Pascal took us up the river in a dug out canoe, where again we saw so many beautiful birds. Having spent most of my life wanting to see a kingfisher up close, on that trip we had multiple kingfisher encounters. He salons showed us the Stephanotis growling on the banks, as I had told him how I grew in my kitchen.
One morning we walked with the whole group into Pascal’s village where we were treated to singing and dancing by the villagers, Pascal played the drum as part of the entertainment. He then showed us around the village and explained about all the spices and food that they grow.
On the last day my husband was unwell, so I went on a sea and river kayak excursion with Pascal. I have some experience of kayaking in Cornwall, so I was used to some waves, but there were parts of this trip where the waves were very big and it was a little scary but I felt that Pascal was in control and safe, and it was an exhilarating experience.
