点评:Came on one of the first days in the 1pm slot as booked on line. The door and inside staff were friendly and helpful, the large collection covered most parts of her artistic career and seemed well curated but not exhaustive. The wall texts were concise and gave the right amount of detail and context. There were even some works by other notable artists arranged to show influences upon BC and some direct comparisons.
I have given a 4 rather than 5 because despite the booking system, there were an uncomfortable number of punters most of whom, predictably were drawn to stand for extended periods close in front of many works without apparent regard for the volume and frustrations of other genuinely interested or curious visitors. Entrance was free, although my life membership since school has left me never having to pay. But I will be going back and pitch in at a time when there’s more space and time.
The guy on the door told me that the outsize sculptures which have been created to accompany this exhibition were starting to be installed outdoors alongside favourite BC haunts and I managed to take a look at the naval rating on the bench outside the Dolphin and the female shopper by the Market entrance but I seem to have been a bit early for others including outside Elviras and by the Hoe bowling green.
I think that the Box organisers are on to a winner.
