New design layout of facilities and expensive day out

点评：The new design layout has a lot to be desired. New car park meant crossing a busy road now to access grounds. New farm shop very expensive indeed compared to some other local ones. No more rare breed animal farm. (maybe want to remove that from your sign as you enter the reception to pay). A few non rare breed animals have been moved to new children's play area on opposite side of road from main house and gardens. Cafe prices eye watering. We read the menu and decided to leave. It all seems fragmented now. £16 entry very expensive. Feels like the place has lost its magic and replaced with very high prices for it primary income ie entrance fees and that of secondary income ie cafe and shop.
Positive you if you just want the children's play area that is free and adjacent to the new car park so good for any local families.
If you do visit the grounds take a packed lunch and flask if you don't want the high prices in the cafe as the walled garden is delightful to visit.
This is just my view. In time people will maybe get use to new layout but I think owners need to look at their price strategy, as it really does feel expensive. Also perhaps get the local council to put some sort of pedestrian crossing on that busy road would help, as those lorries and cars come round that corner pretty fast.
After saying the above I do hope that things work out for Sledmere as a visitor attraction going forward, it is just a very expensive day out as it stands at the moment for what it is. We were surprised that the grounds are only open four days a week now. It does not open on a Saturday which was a surprise. We miss the garden centre as that has now been incorporated into the new farm shop area but the gift shop has remained which is good.
