Sledmere House And Gardens的点评
点评：Sledmere has been close to my heart for many years. It was a place of relaxation on a Sunday a brisk walk and tour of the grounds after a tasty meal in the cafe and to finish off a visit to the shop to buy cake and pastries.
I have written several times in recent years of what were once pleasurable days. But something happened around 2023, when the cafe started to decline and staff lost their jobs and the whole experience with prices rising and service dropping.
After several years of us being Friends, by 2024 we found the spartan cafe food unedible and decided to cancel our Friends Members pass as our neighbours had already done. We visited last year in the hope that it had improved, but its simply got more expensive, £4,00 for a single scoop of ice cream in a tub, and the cafe is a no go area.
Visiting the pub recently for lunch we made what will probably be our last visit now to the Grounds. The house was closed, amenities fragmented, it looked and felt dreadful. I said if we come again we will find all the animals gone! What has happened to Sledmere in the past three years is nothing short of vandalism and how it has been allowed to happen. The paying general public are not fools and when prices increase it is expected the experience keeps pace. Trust must have fallen away for so many visitors,and sadly it will reflect on the family.
Living in East Yorkshire we drive that bit further and are now Friends of Casle Howard for £60.00 a year each, where there are 3 lovely cafes and it is open 7 days a week.
