Oban Distillery is one of Scotland's oldest and smallest licensed single malt Scotch whisky distilleries.
Founded in 1794 by brothers John and Hugh Stevenson, it is famous for being located right in the center of the coastal town of Oban—which actually grew up around the distillery itself.
Because it is hemmed in by steep craggy cliffs and town buildings, the distillery cannot expand.
It still operates with just two traditional pot stills, producing a highly regarded "West Highland" flavour profile that bridges the gap between dry, smoky island whiskies and sweet, lighter Highland malts.
The distillery features a 5-star visitor center and is highly popular among both whisky aficionados and beginners.
The Classic Tour: A 1-hour guided walkthrough covering the traditional mash house, still house, and dram rooms. It typically includes three whisky tastings and a souvenir glass to take home.
The Tasting Bar & Shop: Open to walk-ins who don't have a tour booking. You can sample distillery-exclusive bottles, try signature whisky cocktails, or buy gifts.
Oban 14 Year Old: The distillery’s flagship expression and a benchmark bottling in Diageo’s Classic Malts series. It is matured in ex-bourbon American oak casks, offering notes of orange peel, honey, salted caramel, and a dry, smoky finish.
Oban Little Bay: A no-age-statement expression that serves as a more accessible entry point to the brand. It is married in small oak casks (quarter casks), which accelerates wood interaction to create a richer, fruitier profile with notes of spiced apple and honey.
