A must see, although be prepared for changeable weather
Settle-Carlisle Railway的点评
点评:The Settle to Carlisle line had been on my bucket list for years; I nearly managed it a couple of years back and, indeed, still have the unused ticket in my e-wallet.
I hadn't expected the two-coach Northern Railways' train to be quite so busy on a June Saturday, so there was a bit of a scramble for seats.
I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the lines' development authority runs a trolley service with refreshments and also souvenirs of the line. A cappuccino and really lovely gingery Yorkshire parkins cost me £6.
As we climbed towards Ribblehead, the weather, which had been pleasant, turned into windswept rain. As I was in shorts and tee shirt with just a light wincheater, I recalled my dear old mum's view that bare legs are a lot easier to dry than trousers!
On arrival at Ribblehead, through the mist and driving rain, I could just about see the viaduct, an impressive feat of engineering even through the murk.
Another bucket list item ticked!
