点评：Although the town of Wakefield leaves much to be desired, there is a gem in its midst called the Hepworth Wakefield museum For fans of Barbara Hepworth's sculptures, this is an extraordinary space. The museum itself is intelligently designed, filled with large and small galleries that are drenched in light. The curators have made some very smart choices, positioning the sculptures of Barbara Hepworth and her contemporaries so that they "speak" to one another via complimentary shapes and themes. We happened upon the museum on the weekend of its fifteenth anniversary and were also treated to an opera singer who strolled the room which holds Hepworth's more monumental pieces. The museum is surrounded by water and a small, delightful garden filled with wildflowers. It also has a great cafe where, for lunch, my wife had Welsh rarebit and I had a delicious sandwich filled with chicken and basil. We also took an optional 45 minute guided tour included in the price of admission (must sign up for it in advance), which provided further information about Barbara Hepworth and her extraordinary art. We paired this visit with a visit to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park the previous day. I sculpt in stone and for anyone who appreciates modern sculpture (especially Barbara Hepworth's!) this is a museum not to be missed.
