Sutton Park的点评
点评：A beautiful location with the gardens being very pleasant to stroll around but seemed to lack a degree of maintenance. The guided tour of the house was very interesting, and our two guides were excellent but sadly the house visibly lacked maintenance and upkeep. The modern ‘art’ introduced by the current owner was completely alien to the character of the house and would have been better confined to a separate part of the estate to preserve the integrity of the historic period the main house represents (and which visitors come to see). It has to be said that some of the items of modern ‘art’ were lewd / crude and offensive to women. It appeared that all of the women in our touring group were made to feel uncomfortable in the presence of these items and certainly found them objectionable. All the modern ‘art’ exhibits demonstrated a lack of taste.
Under the current owner, there is a feel of neglect to the place. The photos on the website are stunning, the reality however is dispiriting … if Sutton Park represents part of our cultural heritage, what is its future under the current stewardship?
Daisy’s café was lovely; the food was of high standard with lots of excellent home baking. The staff were lovely too, very friendly, and helpful. However, very expensive as two cups of tea and one slice of cake cost £16.00 so would recommend you take your own picnic on a good weather day as there are several seating areas around the grounds to enjoy al fresco eating!
A combination of visiting the gardens and the house would successfully make a day of it. If you are just visiting the gardens, then perhaps half a day would be sufficient. The admission prices I thought were reasonable.
