Ripley Castle and Gardens的点评
点评：We visited for the first time a few days ago. Our plan was to have lunch at the tea room but found a notice saying it was closed due to unforeseen circumstances. We managed to get a coffee where you pay for entrance tickets. There was an absolute minimum of anything to eat so we made do with just a drink. As we were leaving we spotted the lady behind the counter bringing out a couple of sandwiches which she said she had just a few left. There was no indication that these were available so presume they were tucked away in a fridge somewhere.
Our next problem was after purchasing 2 tickets and enquiring about whether it would be advisable to take a rollator into the grounds. We think it should be stressed that a lot of the pathways consist of gravel surfaces which it’s almost impossible to use a rollator on! We were advised that the grass could be slippery but found it the only surface suitable to use the rollator on, the remainder of the walk round my husband had to take over and struggle with it.
Our next question is: after entering the grounds we spotted a door which was wide open and people were obviously using rather than pay the entrance fee. There were also large gates which stated they were electronically operated but they weren’t closed either. We met a few people with their dogs who told us they go into the grounds on a very regular basis. Why should visitors be expected to pay for a one off visit if this is the case?
We will add that we did get a light lunch at the spot behind the pub followed by Ripley icecream later.
Needless to say we won’t be returning to the castle/grounds!
