点评：We were really looking forward to visiting Jorvik, but unfortunately found it hugely disappointing.
The main ride felt astonishingly dated. The costumed robotic figures looked like something from a 1960s attraction rather than a modern museum experience, and the much-publicised smells were so muted that they added very little to the atmosphere.
The audio was also frustrating. The motorised cars have their own commentary, but this competes with sounds and voices coming from the exhibits themselves, making it difficult to concentrate on either. Rather than feeling immersed in Viking York, we found the whole experience rather muddled.
I had hoped the museum artefacts afterwards would redeem the visit, but many were poorly lit and I struggled to read some of the accompanying information. Considering how fascinating the archaeology and history of Viking York actually are, it felt like a real missed opportunity.
The one genuine positive was the human guides. They were knowledgeable, enthusiastic and engaging, and frankly brought the subject to life far more effectively than the technology did.
