点评:Have visited before but went back post building update and to see the exhibition about Marion and Mauds dresses and shopping habits. Exhibition is small but very nicely done.
After visiting the exhibition, I read ‘A Victorian Household’ by Shirley Nicholson which is based on Marion Sambourne’s diaries . I cannot understand for the life of me why Leighton House/Stafford Terrace didn’t recommend this book ( in a ‘if you want to know more about Marion read this’ type way ) or stock it in the gift shop. It’s the perfect blend of rigorous research coupled with an eye for the ‘human’ element and offers a quite moving insight into Marion’s life and the Victorian society she lived in. Wonderful read and I felt very sad saying goodbye to Marion at the end of the book ; although glad she did not have to witness the horrors of WW1. Highly recommended ( exhibition and book !)
