点评:I dropped into the DCCI Gallery after a visit to the Castle on the 22nd April, and came across the Cartoon Saloon and Holger Strom exhibitions. While the shows are small, they're certainly mighty - I'd heard of the Secret of Kells film but not of the other two. They're three to add to my growing watch list, the stills on display are remarkable. There are three artbooks (one for each film) that visitors are welcome to pick up and handle.
I also enjoyed the Danish lamps from Holger Strom, who invented this sleek modular design during a residency at the Kilkenny Design Workshops. These lamps were originally intended to be Christmas decorations, but the versatility of the modules means that lamps of any size and shape can be constructed - displayed to beautiful effect in a darkened room. Visitors can slot together some example pieces and follow the patterns displayed on laminated cards, a lovely little hands-on activity.
If you're in the area and like modern art, this is one to see - it's free to enter.
