点评:Let me start by saying I’d give a zero star review if i could. I am writing this several days after the ride because it was triggering un enjoyable and a lot to unpack. I had high hopes for this ride. Based on what they post, based on website and based on conversation with Jill via text. What we received was not as described. Reached out for info on June third. Scheduled a river ride on the eighth paid in full on the eight. My kids and I were so excited. After a comment I made it was offered to let us help brush saddle the horses. Both kids and I have experience. This for us was something that would make the experience even better. Via text I was guaranteed we’d enjoy the ride. That was not something that happened. My kids never want to leave when around horses they could not wait to leave after this trail ride. We agree to a ride on the eighth arrive at ten help brush and saddle. Ride at eleven. Perfect. Made the 1.5 hour drive with excitement.
Arrived. Got there at 9:38. The pic we were sent that had where we were supposed to park said park across the road there was no where to do so. Messaged and was told park on back of school house/their building. Ok done was told they would not be there for a bit was ok with that as we were early. Ten am arrives, had to wait additional fourteen minutes for them to arrive. We were not greeted when we came around front. The person I introduced myself to I assumed was the person I had been texting about the ride. Nope. That person was inside. First impressions yard was was messy, unkempt, trash strewn around, used horse shoes with nails side up in several locations plastic bottles and cans, the building and facility was dilapidated and falling apart, with broken windows, asked to use the restroom at 10:14. The toilet was filthy hard water stains that made it worse only mentioning stains because it wasn’t just stains on that toilet, sink was broken, shower full of dirt and rodent feces, more horrifying was the sheer volume of said rodent feces and urine everywhere, parts of the floor covered by it. Flooring felt like it would give under our feet. There was horse feed spilled on floor intermixing with rodent droppings and dirt. Birds were nesting in the schoolhouse, someone was inside knocking those nests down and letting the small children cart around and play with the newly hatched babies. Which is horrifying and inhumane. I mean they didn't have eyes open, couldn't lift their heads and had little to no feathers, these poor babies were in clear distress and we were told grandma knocked em down some died wanna see my pet. Someone said to just bury them without humanely taking care of them after destroying their nest and orphaning them. These nest had been left alone long enough for eggs to be laid and hatched. To do that then destroy them is plain cruelty. Birds have access due to multiple windows being broke and the front door left open the whole time . Creating the issue of birds inside. Not the birds fault. The person I introduced myself to outside pointed out brushes in a pile outside and that was the extent of our introduction to the horses we proceeded to help groom them. The whole time the person I’d been messaging was inside. Saddles and very worn pads gear were brought out and sat in the dirt it wasn’t until two of five horses had been saddled that the person I’d been messaging came out. Again no introduction I had to figure it out for myself that this was the person I’d been in contact with. Horses were tacked up but we then had to wait an additional fifteen twenty minutes to even load the saddle bags and mount because we were waiting on someone to bring water, then waited another five minutes for lead guide to arrive on his horse. They kept insisting we use water they provided didn’t want us to bring our own water, wanted to bring a snack to have was told that was not possible then overheard comments from Jill being made that this was stupid and ridiculous. As ride was only an hour and half long. Lead guide came in at full sprint down the concrete road and blasted into the yard almost crashing into tied horses. It seemed he wanted to make a grande entrance. Lead guide was asked about the snacks and our water bottles and concessions were made to do so. We get mounted, and short instructions,, not even a minute, were given. we disclosed our riding experience that one of the members had only rode as a kid and once two years ago he just laughed and said, you know what your doing. When asked about if the horses had any trail issues, quirks or behaviors they didn't answer and ignored the question. There was between five and seven dogs running all over the property and neighboring ones. Those dogs chased birds on the wildlife refuge that we rode on, got into a altercation with a neighboring dog and the trail guides screamed at them frequently during ride. As soon as I got on my horse it wanted to move and I mean everywhere could not get him to settle was told repeatedly it was because of flies. I’ve been around horses and trail ride previous to this one the horses didn’t move around like that. It made it hard to feel confident in understanding the horse. I made the comment that if a horse could have ADHD this would be it. We get outta the driveway, and the horses get spicier By that i mean tossing their heads, prancing like their straight out of the dressage ring, and trying to take off. While dealing with that we have all of the dogs except two following, getting under the horses feet and running down driveways to which the guide screams at them. The guide, would not stop yelling at them and us, and would tell us to do something just to correct us when we did it. Now for me I went into a bit of shock at the yelling and was triggered straight into survival mode as I’m a DV survivor. As soon as he raised his voice and started talking down to me that was it I was struggling. As soon as he threatened to put me on a lead rope while I was trying to get a proper feel for horse based on his directions my brain went frozen. I went from trying to get a feel for my horse to completely flustered only to be yelled at and told what I was doing wrong and constantly reprimanded all while trying to keep track of my youngest who was having issues and manage my horse while at a fast clip set by lead guide. We were told harshly if the horse bolted home, everyone was going back and ending the ride. After my eleven year old had her horse not listen to her directions with the reins she was chastised and lead guide had to use a guide rein for the entire trail ride as my daughter lost her confidence in herself and the horse and was left feeling unsafe. The horses behavior was contributed to by the fast rushed pace he kept us at, a constant speed-walk, the horses in between a high footed trot and fast walking the entire ride. Except for the one time we had to stop and pose all the horses for a picture, during which we had to do this pose they make all the participants do. We were told not to take pictures ourselves. Told his wife would take pictures, focus on the horse. See, turn look , points at his wife who showed off her phone told to smile. Now having someone take pics is great if pictures show more than your back. And the pics you get help you capture the moment. I literally received pics with heads cut off and of their dog. And for me taking pics is part of the experience and something I love. Same for my kids. We were told not to look at our horses, not to pay attention to their ears or behavior, guide ignored several safer paths to choose the loose rocky ones that led to the same exact place. We booked a river ride, but didnt even get five minutes total in the river. We crossed it twice, and it was maybe four inches deep at the most and ten feet across. Web page says bring a change of clothes for this ride we didn’t get more than a few drops on us. We only crossed the river to get to the place where they wanted to stage the picture. So it was barely a river ride and barely is being generous. While sitting there posing for this picture I watched rodent droppings roll off my horse gear. I just went even more numb. The trail had trash and metal, broken machinery, car parts, broken windshields and bottles etc all over. After the picture we were taken to another spot where there were a few feral horses, a band, we got to see them maybe two minutes before leaving because the dogs kept trying to nip and herd the stallion who was getting agitated. At the dogs and other stallion. That was the one time they didn't yell at the dogs. The one time my eleven year old felt the ride was magical and said so. We were never given a chance to drink water, stop, take pictures, or take a break. Except for the picture they took. We booked the ride for an hour and a half, were out there about an hour most. The horses kept stumbling. From my oldests perspective, she had asked before leaving if her horse did anything she should know about, was told no, that he never acted up, yet halfway through the ride he kicked out at Jill’s horse and when she asked what had happened, Jill said "he tried to kick at my horse, but thats ok, im fine, i knew he sometimes does that" while she had neglected to mention this before. He then kicked at my horse, hitting my boot. The whole ride felt like we were nose to tail no space in between and rushed. My horse had what felt like a loose shoe, and all of the horses walked stiffly and they flicked their feet when they walked. The horses could not stand still for more than a second to a minute before they tried to walk off. It was brushed off as being caused by flies despite fly repellent being used. My children and I felt distinctively uncomfortable having to cross the railroad tracks. The whole ride we felt unsafe and insecure Felt we could not raise concerns or speak out. I’m going to reiterate an example of this, At the beginning of the ride it came down to the lead guide having to hold my youngest lead rope because she didn't feel safe and had lost her confidence. Due to his handling of the situation. Her horse kept going down driveways and trying to return home, and the guides response was to yell and excuse it as her leading him that way. She was doing exactly as instructed from the few instructions given, and the guides knew of her inexperience with riding. I’m going to also point out this child has done a three hour trail ride through steep terrain in the Gilas and had zero issues and was able to do so without a lead. Both guides were abrasive in the way they interacted with us and their horses. Lead guide would go from being abrasive and yanking the bit and reins, slapping his horse with my youngest lead rope, and randomly galloping and twisting the horse around, to overly affectionate to the horses. I had vertigo from the personality shifts. The photos online are nothing like the actual experience that we got, and the trails are unrecognizable. There is the expectation that you give a twenty percent gratuity, on top of the fee they charge. A fee that is actually astronomical when you consider that you don’t get what you paid for. My oldest left her phone in the saddlebag, but we caught it as we were driving away and she went back to retrieve it, only for the lead guide to say "oh i thought that was my tip. Keep in mind by that point he had received an $80 tip on top of them receiving $480." He hadn't bothered to catch us on the way out or text and he had ample time considering we sat in the car for about ten minutes while they untacked, and we waited for the pictures. Pictures that were consistently of our backs with a video showing side profiles and the staged photo. My youngest ended up with a rash I mention this as the person who brought the waters had a rash with blisters. No idea if they were connected . The lead guide made a comment that their horses were treated better and treated as family unlike horses on the reservation claiming that they are treated as a commodity. That just left a bad taste in my mouth.
The little bit of history he gave us was to tell us that the indigenous who lived there were farmers and didnt do scalping, said they were kinda boring. I find it upsetting not being able to take photos, not just because they said so but also because of how the horses acted. Had this been a great experience I’d not have photos of my kids joy. Im incredibly glad we brought our own helmets because where they store their tack and helmets is covered in rat feces as I mentioned at the beginning. I literally felt like i was dealing with two different personalities in one body, there were times the guide was helpful and wasn't yelling but that was when he was letting me give treats to the horses and letting me put sunblock on before we left. Once we had started the ride that personality was off and on. And was prefaced with yelling, reprimanding and being talked down to. Told to smile. A good 20 to 30 percent of the ride was roads both dirt and concrete, not river as one would imagine for a river ride.
Breaking down the time frame of our ride, there is 40 minutes between first pic at 11:16 am and last pic at 11:56 am, pics air dropped after the ride that are time stamped. There was about fifteen minutes at most to get from last pic to meeting spot, so total 60 minute ride not the 1.5 hours booked and paid for. To say we were dissatisfied, disappointed is an understatement. Further making this a nightmare is now being on watch for potentially being exposed to hantavirus. Having to go to ER because youngest had symptoms that could be that virus. Another issue we experienced was me asking at 1:32 pm that they not post any pictures of my kids that I was uncomfortable. I received this message “ No photos - no faces
There is 1 vid of the wild horses and all you can see is helmet and hair, no faces
It's on our FB page”
Roughly Thirty five minutes after my message I see said video and it shows my daughters profile my response was “I did look at it and side of my oldest s face is visible could you please trim and repost”
No response back. Thankfully it appears they took it down completely. Ten outta ten do not recommend. Save your money fine a different trail ride. I’m out over $500 for a nightmare ride and potentially exposed to hantavirus. There are other reviews that touch on the ego and abrasive behavior.
