A lovely but steep forest hike from Aurland to the Stegastein

点评：We hiked up to the StegaStein from Aurland on a path which winds up through the woods directly below the Stegastein. In total including frequent stops (very steep track!) it took us around 4 hours to go up and come down. Loads of beautiful viewpoints on the route and a little "hutte" if you wanted a longer pitstop (no facilities). It was raining and cloudy the day we hiked which may well have been to our advantage as the StegaStein was practically deserted when we got there. No tour buses! But still amazing views out along Aurlandsfjorde. We used the Outdoor Active app to plan our hike and make sure we stayed on track, but you could follow the red paint splashes that were on the trees all the way along the route (plus a couple of signposts at path junctions). The forest was also beautiful to walk through and would be cool on a hot day (it wasn't hot the day we went 😆). There's a shuttle bus to and from Flåm, but we also hiked back to Flåm from Aurland over the hillside througg more peaceful forests. Path was less well marked so you would need an app/map of some sort to guide you.
