点评：It was a memorable, albeit Equatorial Guinea HOT, day on the water and the Island with Capt. Langdon Lacy. Being a native Lowcountry Son and avid Insho' Saltwater Fisherman, I thought I knew a fair amount about our local Tidal Estuaries. Capt. Langdon, however, taught me many new things, and cleared up some myths about other things, much to my delight. The Old Growth forest on St. Phillips was purely astounding. I was shocked and amazed, as I have now been to every one of the SC Barrier Sea Islands, and have never seen anything remotely like that forest on any other Island. The huge Southern Magnolias (Gradiflora Magnolia) in particular are singularly unique, as they are not Saltwater resistant, as are the other species in Maritime Forests such as this one. Apparently, much of the Island's high ground is upon an elevated, or "perched" shelf. Mags are gnarly and freaky looking, and festooned with Spanish Moss. If you hold me before that day that you saw Spanish Moss on a Southern Mag, I would have called you a liar. After hiking through the forest for awhile, I began to feel as if the strange, primordial, primal, otherworldly forest was something out a Fairy Tale. Then, my thoughts shifted to it's spookiness, and I thought to myself that maybe the forest is Haunted! Yikes! Seriously though, it's like something out of another time, space, and dimension. I remember seeing the following species of Wildlife: Tamenends Dolphins, Gators, a huge Fox Squirrel, and many Seabird and Wading Bird species, such as Brown Pelicans, Herons, Egrets, Gulls, and Plovers, just to name a few. In conclusion, I would highly recommend that everyone go on this excursion. It's a Blast, and a once in a Lifetime experience. I've already decided to go back this Fall (when the temperature won't be a million degrees)! Cheers Y'all. GWS, PE
