John Day Fossil Beds National Monument的点评
点评：We visited each of the three separate areas. The Clarno Unit has easy hikes, easy parking, and picnic areas. The trails could use better signs showing the starting points because they're a bit confusing to find. The fossil trail was a little disappointing. We were hoping for bones and skulls, but it was mostly leaves. Still cool, though. The Sheeprock Unit is great for history. Go to the Visitor Center and check out the fossil museum. The Painted Hills Unit was easily our favorite. You drive way out and suddenly are surrounded by these gorgeous hills in reds, yellows, and blacks. There are several light hikes with great views, and several long, hard hikes, so there's something for everyone. Things were well marked and there was plenty of easy parking. If you only have time for one area, I would suggest Painted Hills.
There aren't bathrooms at every place, so when you see one, use it. I recommend bringing plenty of bottled water and snacks with you. There is no place to buy food.
