COCHECO ARTS FESTIVAL SERIES OPENING CONCERT

点评：When the calendar turns to July, Henry Law Park becomes a very busy place. Children are out of school, so the Dover Adventure Playground in the park gets more use. And, the two summer concert series get underway at the Rotary Arts Pavilion which is also on park grounds. Plus, the Cochecho Riverwalk along the riverfront in the park gets more sightseers, walkers, joggers, and runners.
My most recent visit was to attend the first Cocheco Arts Festival Headliner Series concert. Those are traditionally held on Friday nights.
This concert drew a good-sized crowd of 300 to 400 people. Some sat in the amphitheater seating. Many others brought lawn chairs or blankets. People of all ages attended – from youngsters to seniors.
Performing for the the season’s premier concert was John Nolan & Good Co. It’s difficult to put a single-genre label on songwriter Jon Nolan’s music. When he plays with Say Zuzu, the style is alt-country. The music played with Good Co. had amore of a country sound. Some songs had pop overtones; others were more like folk music. His songs tell stories. He’s like a modern-day Bill Morrissey or Cormac McCarthy.
The sound system is excellent. Providing sound engineering services this night was New England Mobile Audio.
Although not a big fan of country music, I enjoyed John Nolan’s music and the performance which I rate at 4.25. I can recommend attending a summer concert here.
