点评:How you view the Bilbao Museum of Archaeology depends a lot on your interests. If you are interested in local human archaeology, you should find this to be a great attraction. If not, this may be one to miss.
The Museum of Archaeology stands on a banked area in the city’s old town. It’s not hard to spot given the large courtyard in front of it, clear view, and wide steps. It’s directly across from the Basque ethnographic museum on the other side of the open area.
We visited on a Tuesday, when admission was free. If you are thinking of coming, Tuesday is a good day, but on any day take a look at the hours as they close in the early afternoon and then re-open at 4.
While the museum is 4 stories tall, only two have exhibits. Each object has detailed descriptions in Spanish and Basque. There are also audio tours in other languages, including English. We augmented that with Google Translate on our phones, and had no trouble getting around. The interior itself is modern.
The artifacts range from the prehistoric period through Roman times to about 1500. Our entire group was amazed at the condition of some of the stonework, which seemed far more intact than we would have expected.
This is a well-built and well-designed museum where everything has a clean, quality feel.
We spent about an hour here. If anthropology or archaeology are your thing and you are in Bilbao, this is an easy place to visit.
