点评:The lighthouse was established in 1868. It is an iconic Canadian landmark and a famous Nova Scotian attraction. Located in an active fishing community famed for its picturesque village, it is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world. The lighthouse was built to protect St. Margaret’s Bay, and is reachable by car along Nova Scotia Route 333, also known as Prospect Road; the scenic route. It’s roughly 40-miles from Halifax. The tower is 50–feet tall and 67-feet above the water. The light is no longer operating, but it is still operational. There were seven lightkeepers from 1868 to 1958.
Where the rocks are dry and white, it is safe to climb on them. Where they are grey and damp or wet, it is dangerous.
On the day we visited, it was very crowded and parking was at a premium. The village has a year-round population of 30-35, but during tourist season 750,000 to 800,000 people can visit.
