点评:This isn’t so much a museum of things found underwater as it is about the techniques of doing underwater archaeology - the care that must be taken in planning, exploring, excavating and preserving (including, sometimes, covering up an excavation after it’s completed) a find. It is highly informative, well presented (with most explanations in both Spanish and English) and educational. There are detailed descriptions of the processes a proper exploration follows, videos, hands-on exhibits and displays of items found in the waters around Cartagena and of how cargoes were loaded on ships both in antiquity and in the age of sail. There is an extensive treatment of an attack by a British fleet on four Spanish galleons carrying gold and silver from the Americas to Spain, the sinking of one of the Spanish ships, the finding of the wreck and its treasure 200 years later by a private American company, and the subsequent lawsuit over who had the rights to the treasure. The museum is not very large but it conveys a lot of information. We spent about an hour and a half and found it very interesting. Admission is €3 (€1.5 for seniors) and is free Saturdays after 2:00 and all day Sundays.
