点评:Palazzo Pitti was the residence of the Grand Dukes of Tuscany, and later of the King of Italy.
Today, it is an ever-changing museum complex.
Numerous exhibitions are held throughout the year, and it is home to six permanent museums: the Palatine Gallery, which houses collections from the 16th and 17th centuries, and the Gallery of Modern Art, with paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries; the Silver and Porcelain Museums, which house precious objects that belonged to the Medici family; and finally, the Costume Gallery, which houses and displays clothing and fashion accessories from the last three centuries.
The latter, among temporary exhibitions showcasing various aspects of the history of clothing based on the large collection of period clothing and famous, even contemporary, designers, has, in our opinion, its fulcrum and central and fundamental point in the room displaying the actual clothes (or what remains of them) worn by Cosimo I de' Medici and his wife when they were buried.
These clothes are 500 years old.
The room is very dark, because the light would ruin and fade the already compromised fabrics that were saved with meticulous restoration.
If done properly, a visit to the Pitti and Boboli Gardens can take up to half a day.
Keep this in mind when planning your visit.
