点评:As a resident of Angus I have been meaning to visit the House of Dun (House or Fun?) for a long time, and I’m really glad I decided to visit today! Turned up with my mum in the early afternoon for sandwich and coffee first in the cafe (staff were lovely and all the food tasted great!). We then headed for a tour of the house (lasting around 1 hour) with Mr Young who was brilliant and highly informative on the Erskine family and the history of the house. He was very enthusiastic to answer questions and made the experience fun! Unlike other historic houses I have visited, House of Dun really felt like a home that you could still live in today and you felt like you were genuinely walking in the footsteps of past residents.
As access to the house is only possible via tour, I admire how natural NTS has kept the exhibition side of the experience by keeping objects in natural locations rather than in bulky glass cases like we see in other historic houses, certainly makes it feel more homely than museum-like. As a history girlie in her twenties I was comforted by the surroundings and how much care has been put into this place to keep it alive. I can’t wait to come back here later in spring and summer to enjoy the gardens which were beginning to bloom!
