基拉韦厄火山的点评
点评：Kīlauea has had 41 eruptions over the past year or so. We watched the live volcano cams carefully and bided our time until Saturday, January 24 — the day that the scientists said that Kīlauea would next erupt.
Welcome Center guides inside VNP helped us get oriented and we were on our way on the walking path right across the road. At 10 am the North vent of Kīlauea was bubbling and oozing with just a bit of lava. The South vent started as well. By around 11, 11:15 am it was fountaining. Actually, double fountains. It grew and grew. And, it actually roared. We could hear it.
Amazing Episode 41 in all of its glory!! Lava higher and higher up in the air. The crowds arrived. Pele hair and tephra rained on us. We marveled at the site and were mesmerized. We spent about 4.5 hours at VNP and then felt it was time to leave. The air was thick with tephra and the crowds were dense inside the Park. Cars were parked everywhere.
We found out later that Rte 11 was closed in both directions due to tephra and traffic was terrible. Anyone who left VNP after us sat in traffic. Same for anyone who tried to get into the Park. Again, we were lucky.
We will never forget our adventure of Episode 41! So grateful to have seen this in our lifetime. 🌋
